Education System

Education system in the UK is different from the American system of education. The education system in UK comprises of four stages. Primary education starts at the age of 5 years. This is followed by secondary education, which lasts from 7 to 11 years. Children will be continuing with further education between 11 and 14 years and this is followed by higher education, which the student will be able to complete by his/hers 16 th year.

Undergraduate study in UK

Students in the UK can usually earn a Bachelor’s degrees such as BA (Bachelor of Arts), BEng (Bachelor of Engineering), and BSc (Bachelor of Science) after three years of full time study. Moreover, a few private colleges offer one year diploma programme which is equivalent to one year of University education. So, these students who take up the one year diploma course are awarded entry to some universities in the second year.

Postgraduate and PhD program in UK

The Postgraduate programs are usually much shorter than the other countries in UK. A Master’s degree, which generally takes 2 years to complete in other country, can be obtained in 12 months. Also, a PhD research degree in the UK can take between 2 and 7 years.

Earn while you Learn

You can complete your study period in UK with less financial burden by earning through many part time jobs during your stay in the country. International students pursuing full time studies in recognized colleges and universities are eligible to work for 20 hours a week during weekdays and up to 40 hours a week during the academics breaks. If you are above 16 years and have a Tier 4 (General 4) visa you are qualified to work in the UK.

Governmental scholarships:

Chevening Scholarships

A state-governed global scholarship programme offers scholarships and fellowships to the international students. This scholarship is generally awarded to the international students (with 2 years of work experience) willing to take up a one-year Master course at a UK university but it can also be granted for other postgraduate courses.

Commonwealth Scholarships

A Commonwealth Scholarship covers your tuition fees, airline airfares, essential living costs plus other allowances. This scholarship is generally awarded to the international students willing to take up a one-year Master’s course or equivalent 3 to 4 years program and also to the students aiming to get Doctoral degrees.

Mostly the students opting courses related to the subjects such as Engineering & Technology, Theoretical and Applied Science, Agriculture, and Humanities and Social Sciences are eligible to receive this scholarship.
